Ted Mottaz, Grassroots Chair


Ted graduated from Western Illinois University with a BS degree in Agriculture Education in 1970 and served as a combat infantryman in Vietnam.   He earned his MS degree in Agriculture Education and Mechanization from SIUC in 1982.  He taught agriculture education at ROWVA High School and at Carl Sandburg College for 32 years.   He is very active in his community, serving as Chairperson of the Elmwood Zoning Board of Appeals, Chairperson of the Knox County Soil and Water Board, Past President of the Knox County Farm Bureau, and Secretary of the Knox County Extension Facilities Board.

Ted started farming with his brother, dad, and grandfather in 1983 and has steadily increased his acreage and his on-farm presence. Today he is a full-time family farmer.

Ted is a member of the Elmwood United Methodist Church, where he serves as Lay Leader.

Ted and his wife Janet live in Elmwood and have two grown children.  Phillip lives with his wife Rachel and son Henry in Sun City, CA, which provides a great place for vacations.  Emily, her husband Joe, and their six children, Anna, Josie, Amelia, Jack, Caroline, and Mary live on the Mottaz home farm in southern Knox County between Yates City and Farmington.
