Early word in the planned acquisition of Monsanto by Bayer is that the Monsanto name might be dropped. Long reviled by anti-ag groups, losing the name might be a PR boost. Or, might the haters hearken back to Shakespearean prose and remind us all that, “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet?” Or maybe in this case, not so sweet. Mergers like this one were the topic of a hearing yesterday in Washington, DC, where National Corn Growers Association CEO, Chris Novak, testified.
