Illinois farmers should consider calling Senators Durbin and Kirk today and tomorrow ahead of a vote to force the EPA to withdraw their controversial Waters of the U.S. rule.

S. 1140, the Federal Water Quality Protection Act, is a bipartisan piece of legislation that requires the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers to withdraw the rule and new legislation to be proposed after conferencing with stakeholders and states.

The House has already passed a similar bill, H.R. 1732, the Regulatory Integrity Protection Act of 2015, which also requires the EPA to withdraw the rule.

As you likely remember, the proposed WOTUS rule was drafted to give clarity to the nation as to what waters specifically were within the jurisdiction of the EPA and ended with the EPA declaring power over lands that only see standing water during a significant rainfall event once a year or less.

Be prepared to share your name and hometown and then ask for a yes vote on S. 1140, the Federal Water Quality Protection Act, which would require the withdrawal of the WOTUS rule.
