Congressman John Shimkus, representing many corn farmers in central and southern Illinois, has been named the Chairman of a new Subcommittee on Environment, part of the Energy and Commerce Committee.

Notably, within the new Subcommittee on Environment, Shimkus will have jurisdiction over the Renewable Fuel Standard and, a recent change, the Clean Air Act.

IL Corn Growers Association congratulates Congressman Shimkus on the leadership position and looks forward to working with him on legislative priorities and changes that will positively impact farmers and their family farms as well as all Americans.

“It’s an exciting day when Congressman Shimkus, who understands the science and the politics of the renewable fuels industry in Illinois and the U.S., heads the committee of jurisdiction on the Renewable Fuel Standard.  The cherry on top is to have him leading Clean Air Act reform, which has the potential to impact so many farmers,” said Justin Durdan, IL Corn Growers Association President.

“Congressman Shimkus has always been accessible and available and has represented Illinois farmers so well.  We can’t wait to get started working with him in this role in 2017.”

Rep. David McKinley (R-W.Va.) will serve as vice chairman of the subcommittee.
