BLOOMINGTON, Ill.—With Chicago-metro area gas prices hovering just under the $4 mark, motorists are more than likely looking for ways to save money the next time they pull up to fill’er-up.

AAA reported in today’s Fuel Gauge Report the average price for regular unleaded in the Chicago-metro market at $3.959.

In contrast, the E-85 Prices website indicates prices for flex-fuels up to E-85 and E-15 can be found in the same area for 25% less than regular unleaded. The website generates price charts based on motorist submitted data.

E-85 is an approved fuel choice for any flex-fuel vehicle. An estimated 16 million vehicles on the road in the U.S. are flex-fuel. These vehicles may have a “badge” on the rear of the vehicle denoting them as such. They may also have a yellow-fuel cap that alerts the owner to its compatibility with ethanol blends up to E-85.

A list of flex-fuel vehicle models is available from the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest at http://www.cleanairchoice.org/fuels/FFVPoster.pdf.

A list of stations offering E-85 or other fuels appropriate for flex-fuel vehicles is available from the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest at http://www.cleanairchoice.org/E85StationList.asp?state=IL.
