You’ve got less than two weeks to make your first Farm Bill 2014 decisions.  Do you have your appointment with the local Farm Service Agency office yet?

February 27 is the deadline for yield and base acre decisions under the new farm program.  Informal reports indicate that relatively few farmers have completed the signup.  Perhaps the bill seems too complicated and taking the default option of retaining current program yields and base acres seems to be the best option.

But that could be a mistake.

For most Illinois farmers, updating base acres and program yields to reflect the most corn acres will do a better job of protecting against risky situations and guaranteeing revenue levels that will keep your farm afloat.

Check out these resources that will help you better understand the decisions you need to make by Feb 27 and March 31.
