The Humane Society of the U.S., known for their backhanded way of pretending to fund local humane societies while instead, funding large scale attacks against modern livestock production, is finally seeing a change in their usually blindly supportive base.

According to Humane Watch, a recent poll of over 1,000 HSUS donors revealed some telling changes in their perceptions of the animal rights organization.

  • Nearly two-thirds of HSUS donors support the group to help HSUS care for animals in shelters or to reduce the number of animals put down in shelters.
  • 59% of donors are less likely to support HSUS now that they know HSUS only gives 1% of its budget to pet shelters.
  • 84% of donors think “HSUS misleads people into thinking that it supports local humane societies and pet shelters.”
  • 87% of donors think HSUS should be required to disclose in ads that it only gives 1% of the money it raises to pet shelters; 88% of donors think HSUS should be required to disclose in advertising that it isn’t affiliated with local humane societies.

Humane Watch responds to this information by concluding that, “In today’s partisan environment, you don’t see many polls where 90 percent of people agree on anything. Yet nearly 90 percent of HSUS donors think HSUS should be required to include disclaimers in its advertising. That’s telling.”

Humane Watch has been making some great strides to hold the extremist organization accountable recently, with a new ad campaign in Washington, DC and a vote of confidence from the popular commentator, Glenn Beck who urges people not to donate to HSUS.

Due mostly to Humane Watch’s incredible communicating skills, the HSUS’s charity rating has fallen to a D, according to the charity watchdog American Institute of Philanthropy.

The fact that the public is seeing HSUS for what they really are, an income generating machine that funds lobbyists and seeks to end animal ownership in the U.S., is a huge win for American livestock farmers and the rest of the agricultural industry.
