GFAI SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION AVAILABLE

Oct 04, 2010  |  Today's News |  Public Outreach

Finding people with the skills and talent necessary to lead the way into the future continues to be increasingly difficult because there is tremendous competition between industries for qualified and motivated personnel. The Grain and Feed Association of Illinois (GFAI) recognizes the need to support students seeking higher education and appreciates the fact that having motivated youth dedicated to agriculture is vital to the success of the industry.

It is because of this need to foster success that GFAI offers two different scholarship opportunities to Illinois youth. Applicants must be residents of Illinois, be enrolled at a University or Junior College within Illinois and have a sincere interest in the grain and feed industry - not production agriculture. These scholarships will not affect financial aid. The two types of scholarship available are:

Industry Immersion Scholarship Program
The Industry Immersion Program is a scholarship awarded to students interested in pursuing a career in the grain and feed industry. The additional bonus is the opportunity to work at an elevator for 1 day a month for 8 months as well as attend a Leadership Seminar during the summer. The amount of the scholarships is determined on an annual basis and may vary each year, but is anticipated to be $2,500 for University and Junior College applicants. This amount may change between now and the time of application so please check back for more accurate amounts.  Applications are due November 19, 2010.

Monetary Scholarship Program
The amount of the scholarships is determined on an annual basis and may vary each year, but is expected to be $1,000 for University and $750 for Junior College applicants. Applications are due November 19, 2010.

“Retired” and “Student” Memberships Now Available from GFAI!

GFAI has recently developed two new memberships

  1. Retired Membership - $35 per year and for those who are retired but wish to remain involved and keep in touch with friends
  2. Student Membership – this is FREE and is geared towards students who are looking to network and learn about the many opportunities in the industry.

There’s a tremendous amount to gain from each of these memberships so if you know anyone who may be interested, please pass this opportunity on to them! Some exceptions may apply for the startup of this program, so please contact Jodie at jbrooks@gfai.org with any questions.
