Travis Deppe, Director of Precision Conservation Management for the Illinois Corn Growers Association, shared a message about the farm economy, market trends and how farmers are engaging in sustainability through the implementation of conservation practices at the Coalition on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases last week.

Deppe was joined by Shefali Mehta, Executive Director of Soil Health Partnership, whose goal is to measure and communicate the economic and environmental benefits of different soil management strategies and provide a set of regionally specific, data‑driven recommendations that farmers can use to improve the productivity and sustainability of their farms.

The two shared a compelling message about farmer adoption of conservation practices.

“Voluntary practices can make a difference both for Illinois farmers and for Illinois citizens,” said Deppe.  “Farmers are proving that adopting certain conservation practices makes both an economic impact during a tough economic time on the farm, but it can also positively impact water quality in our state.”
