ILLINOIS CORN FARMERS LOBBY FOR ?EURoeFARM BILL NOW?EUR?

Illinois corn farmers were on Capitol Hill this week with three legislative priorities. At the top of the list was the 2012 Farm Bill and the urgent need to complete that legislation this year. Word is that the Senate Ag Committee may finish their version of the legislation by Memorial Day and send that on to the House.

We may need your help in the coming weeks to let the Illinois Congressional Delegation know how important finishing the Farm Bill is. Of course, you know as well as anyone that it’s difficult to plan when you don’t know what the legislation may be. You know that IL Corn was at the table during the Super Committee process last fall offering suggestions as to how to manage farm programs while helping reduce the budget. And we know that you’ve told us that crop insurance is the top priority in your revenue based safety net.

ILLINOIS CORN’S TOP LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES:

MARCH 2012

1. To pass a farm bill in 2012 that provides an adequate revenue-based safety net for U.S. corn farmers.

2. To secure additional co-sponsors for the WAVE-4 legislation sponsored by Congressman Whitfield of Kentucky, see the legislation passed, and enjoy locks and dam upgrades before the U.S. is no longer competitive in a world market.

3. To preserve the integrity of the Renewable Fuels Standard as an energy security effort, a cost-savings measure for U.S. consumers, and a market for U.S. corn.
