According to the US Department of Agriculture’s Planting Progress report released yesterday, Illinois has more than caught up to the slow start during the 2018 planting season.

Illinois corn is now 90 percent planted, compared to 74 percent planted last year and a five-year average of only 70 percent planted during the same week.

Nationally, the corn crop is 62 percent planted compared to a five-year average of 63 percent.

Corn emergence also shows no signs of being behind.  In fact, Illinois is significantly ahead of the five-year emergence average.  As of May 13, USDA reports Illinois at 63 percent emerged compared to a five-year average of 41 percent.
