Mar 02, 2011  |  Today's News

Illinois corn farmers are among the more than 4,500 expected attendees at the 2011 Commodity Classic. “Classic” as it is commonly called, is the premier convention and trade show of the U.S. corn, soybean, wheat and sorghum industries

In addition to the trade show, participants will also have numerous opportunities to take part in policy discussions, view demonstrations, and attend learning sessions. This is what other industries call “professional development” or “continuing education.” Yes, farmers are constantly seeking to improve their skill sets, as well.

Among the speakers are U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and Congressman Frank Lucas, Chair of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture.

Starting tomorrow, delegates of the Illinois Corn Growers Association will be participating in Corn Congress, the grassroots policy development session of the National Corn Growers Association. Illinois delegates will be bringing a number of policy amendments to the floor dealing with everything from ethanol policy, farm bill priorities, crop insurance reform, and biotech patent events.

These policies were developed first at the county level in Illinois, and then at the state level in the annual policy meeting held in November.
