RED CROSS NO LONGER ACCEPTING DONATIONS FOR JAPANESE EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

Nov 03, 2011  |  Today's News

The outpouring of support to our friends and trade partners in Japan from people all across the country has been wonderful. Earlier than had been anticipated, the American Red Cross will no longer accept donations tied to the Japanese Relief Effort because it has met its fundraising goal.

Illinois Corn, in partnership with other farm organizations in the state and the IL Department of Agriculture, asked you to consider donating bushels from your fall harvest to this effort. We appreciate the support and more broadly, the recognition of the role Japan plays in corn exports from Illinois.

Remember that grain donation for charitable causes, be they for the Red Cross, your local church, or the 4H Foundation, may be a choice that makes sense for your farm and your choice to be philanthropic. Consult with your accountant for any impacts on your tax liability. For more information on this topic, consult the FarmDoc blog Increasing Charitable Yields with Bushel Gifts.
