TAKE ACTION NOW TO PROTECT YOUR FARM

If you’re an Illinois Corn Growers Association member, you received a grassroots advocacy packet in the mail this week.  The packet asked you to take action to stop the EPA on atrazine and ethanol attacks, and also to send a letter supporting trade.

Have you signed your letters yet?

Atrazine: The EPA has this popular and effective herbicide in its crosshairs.  EPA just released their preliminary ecological risk assessment for atrazine, and their analysis uses faulty science.  If their assessment stands, it could severely curb the availability and use of atrazine.  This means you will have to use a costly alternative!

Ethanol: For the third straight year, the EPA is targeting the Renewable Fuel Standard.  Instead of following the law, the EPA wants to blend 200 million fewer gallons than the law stipulates.  More than 71 million bushels of corn, or 424,000 acres of harvested corn, will not be sold to ethanol plants.

Trade: Congress needs to hear you support the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).  The TPP is a free trade agreement between the United States and 11 Asia-Pacific countries that breaks down trade barriers and allows farmers to compete on a level playing field in one of the world’s fastest-growing regions.  With 95 percent of our consumers living outside the U.S., a bright future for American agriculture depends on the ability to sell to foreign markets.

If you haven’t signed and returned your letters in the self-addressed envelope yet, please do so as soon as possible.  And if you’d rather, you can use our online advocacy platform to send emails on these issues today!

Add volume to your voice by speaking up via our advocacy packet AND email!
