Last week, the Illinois Corn Growers Association and the Illinois Corn Marketing Board joined several other Illinois commodity groups in urging Governor Bruce Rauner to declare a Harvest Season Emergency for the 2017 harvest current underway in Illinois.

Declaring the emergency allows farmers to deliver grain more efficiently when they are able to harvest to offset the late harvest and weather difficulties this fall.

The Illinois harvest is just over half complete.  Some farmers in northern Illinois have just begun to harvest or haven’t even started yet!  A harvest emergency declaration would definitely help those farmers get their grain in from the fields in the most timely and efficient manner.

With commodity prices what they are, we know that Illinois farmers will need all the help they can get.
